Smokesgiving
So a few months ago, on a whim, and after watching season one and two of TLC's Pit Masters, I decided to build my very own meat smoker. Seriously, try watching that show when your belly is barking; it's damn near impossible not to want your own smoker to sup on all kinds of meat. It's been a while since I made it, and I've gotten a lot of use out of it but this is the first time I actually documented the process, so I am only just making a blog entry now unfortunately.

Deep Fried Eggs Benedict
Cooked up this beaut a couple of weeks ago. Me Pa saw it on an episode of You Gotta Eat Here where they featured a Toronto greasy spoon called Hadley's. Basically, it's a deep fried poached egg tossed in corn meal, atop pulled pork, atop hash browns, slathered in Hollandaise Sauce. To create the deep fried egg, you poach an egg, carefully strain the water then drop it into some flour, carefully roll it in flour then transfer to corn meal, carefully corn meal (finer grind the better), and then drop it into some very hot oil. Brown this little deep fried chicken baby and transfer to paper towel to soak up some grease, then chuck it onto your carnivore lasagna! If you've done it right, the egg will remain runny in the middle but with a crunchy shell that will have the easter bunny re-considering her future.

Sign this POUTITION!!
Poutine is, without a doubt, the greatest invention to ever come from the mind of any Canadian in the history of the world. It might just be the greatest invention ever thought up by man or beast. This is why we, as a nation who love our great country and the greatness that is poutine, must sign this POUTITION to officially make poutine our national dish!!
Ok whatever, it's a marketing ploy from Wendy's to garner some interest in the launch of their "new" poutine. I'm sure it's going to be shit, just like Burger King's blasphemous "angry poutine", but who cares?! Sign the petition, it's pretty damn funny and if this thing gets legs think of how awesome it will be to finally, officially claim poutine as our own??
POUTITION!

Eat Local! Cowbell Restaurant
Despite the amount of bacon and hamburger related posts on this blog, one of the food trends that has had my knickers wet lately is the Locavore movement. Probably not long after that disgusting "Where does Walmart get their Chicken" thing went around the internet a few years ago, I decided to put more effort into buying my food locally. I'm not talking about "certified organic" or "free range", I'm talking about looking at the name of the farm where you get your meat from and researching it. Visiting farmers markets is another great way to buy local, and I promise you will notice a difference.
Here's a video that I just stumbled on from the people at Toronto Standard. It documents the precise and thoughtful motions that Chef Mark Cutrara takes to create the weekly menu at his Locavore restaurant, Cowbell (in Parkdale, Toronto). There's just something about this video that gives me a hard on.
The colour of the meat and the care that this Chef/Butcher puts into his food is incredible. I can't wait to get down to Queen St West and try it out. Luckily, I'm moving across the street in a week ;)
Check out Cowbell here, and a round up of some more Locavore Restaurants on BlogTO.

THE ULTIMATE WHOPPER!!
Some son-of-a-bitch reporter in Tokyo just handed the rest of the bacon loving world their asses by ordering a Whopper with 1050 STRIPS OF BACON ON IT!!!
Apparently, Tokyo Burger King announced a "15 strips of bacon on your burger for ¥100 (~$1.25)" promotion, so this bacon blaster payed a measly $12.50 for 150 strips (and who wouldn't?!). He puts this little bacon baby down the trap like Babe Ruth swatting at a fly, and after a short trip home to deposit his lunch into a short term processed bacon account, returns with fire in his eyes. I can not believe that Tokyo Burger King has a bacon stockade capable of creating one man's 1050 bacon strip Whopper, but seeing is believing. Bacon boy burns through this big bad burger and likely implodes, creating the universe's first Bacon SUPERNOVA!!!!
